2016 has been the year of VR, but how many units are actually in the hands of consumers?
That's the big question that still hangs over the sector, and one that SuperData has now tried to answer.
As reported by Upload VR, the research specialist predicts the following install bases for the end of 2016:
- PlayStation VR – 2,602,307
- Samsung Gear VR – 2,316,632
- Google Daydream – 450,083
- HTC Vive – 420,108
- Oculus Rift – 355,088

Are we surprised to see Oculus Rift, the headset that started the whole thing, sitting at the bottom of the pile? And it looks as if Sony's mid-range approach, aiming above the possibilities of mobile VR but below the requirements of the high-end market, is really paying off.
