The Steam user reviews for Batman Arkham Knight will make for some hard reading for publisher Warner Bros this morning.
The PC port of the superhero title is being slammed by all corners of the internet following its release yesterday thanks to a catalogue of technical problems being experienced by users.
We're aware that some users are reporting performance issues with the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight,” Warner said on the game's forums yesterday. This is something that Rocksteady takes very seriously. We are working closely with our external PC development partner to make sure these issues get resolved as quickly as possible.”
The external PC development partner in question, it seems, is Killer Instinct: Season Two studio Iron Galaxy, although this was not divulged prior to the game's release.
The problems primarily involve low framerates, stuttering and texture loading. The game is also by default locked to 30 frames per second, which for high-end PC gamers is often a big no-no.
Even for those whose experience has so far been smooth (including this author) there is also the problem of missing visuals feature (AO appears to be disabled and rain effects absent) – which is all the more galling after Nvidia previously made lots of noise about the extra graphical flair that will be offered on PC. The graphics settings options are also very sparse, offering little in the way of flexibility.
As it stands the PS4 version appears to be the best-looking SKU, even when compared against the meatiest of gaming PCs.
