Watch Dogs sells 4m copies during launch week

Watch Dogs has sold more than 4m units in its first week, Ubisoft has announced.

The figure is a new industry record for sales by a new intellectual property in a seven-day span, as well as the best selling launch week ever for an Ubisoft game.

Assassin’s Creed III had previously held the title of ‘best Ubisoft launch ever,’ with just 3.5m sales across a whole month of availability. Meaning Watch Dogs has not only set a new company record, it’s half a million copies over the previous best with still three weeks to spare.

"With such strong sales momentum and positive feedback from gamers, Watch Dogs has positioned itself as the must-have game of the moment," Ubisoft senior director of marketing and communications Lucile Bousquet said.

"We’re really proud of this achievement, and are confident that the Watch Dogs brand has a promising future."

Watch Dogs is out now on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One – with a Wii U release also planned for Q4 2014.
