WHATS NEW September 26th 08

There’s a busy day ahead for retail this Friday, with plenty of hard-hitting titles heading for shelves – and with something for everyone many will be hoping for the biggest Friday for quite some time.

It’s hard to pick a headline act out of the assorted collection, but Ubisoft will certainly be hoping for good things from Brothers In Arms: Hell’s Highway. Gearbox’s FPS has always tried to offer something a little different from the crowd, and with no Halo on the cards this year, and big hitters like Resistance 2 and Call of Duty: World at War still some way off, it should do well.

Disney’s first foray into the realm of original IP also arrives, in the shape of BlackRock’s ATV racer Pure. The reactions to the recently released PS3 and 360 demos have been positive, so it will be interesting to see how this one fares.

Retro Wii owners can look forward to Sega’s colourful rhythm action outing Samba de Amigo, whilst the classic publisher is also unleashing its long-awaited DS RPG title, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. More light-hearted Wii action comes in the shape of Atari’s promising Wii Fit rival, Family Trainer. There’s also been lots of good noise about THQ’s Wii platformer De Blob, which has cult hit written all over it. And with Nintendo finally releasing Wario Land: The Shake Dimension, it’s certainly a good week for Wii owners.

On the PC front, strategy fans have Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: Colonization to get their teeth into.

Other titles to keep an eye on include Black Bean’s SBK Superbike on PS3, Ubisoft’s Gordon Ramsey tie-in Hell’s Kitchen, Koei’s G1 Jockey for both PS3 and Wii, EA’s NHL 09, Rising Star’s PSP oddity R-Type Tactics, D3P’s Shaun the Sheep, THQ’s racer Baja and EA’s Sim City Creator.
