More than $590 million will be wagered on esports competitions through cash gambling sites in 2016 with 93% of the wagering taking place through esportsbook betting, which is akin to traditional sports betting. It is similar to wagering on the outcome of a match between two professional sports teams, except that bets are made by people predicting the outcome of esports (competitive video game) matches.
