Yokai Watch 2 remains top of Japanese charts despite slew of new releases

Yokai Watch 2 has remained at the top of the weekly Japanese software charts, despite five new entries in the Top Ten, according to the latest sales data from Famitsu.

The highly successful 3DS title, which is available in ‘Ganso’ and ‘Honke’ editions, has now sold over two million units in total.

It fought off competition this week from two new 3DS games, Bandai Namco’s Dragonball Heroes Ultimate Mission 2 and Marvelous’ Senran Kagura 2: Shinku, which placed at second and third respectively.

Joining the handheld titles were two new games for Sony’s PS3 platform, Ultra Street Fighter IV and Shin Hayarigami – the latter squeezing into the chart at number 10.

Regarding the hardware rankings, once again Nintendo’s 3DS XL continues to be the best-selling console in Japan, with rival handheld the PlayStation Vita remaining at number two.

Lower down, Nintendo’s Wii U overtook Sony’s PS3, with the latter also falling behind Nintendo’s standard 3DS SKU to sit just above its successor, the PS4.
