The company behind Eve Online is latest firm to go on the attack against video game gambling sites.
In a post on its development blog, CCP said it was making changes to Eve Online’s End User License Agreement (EULA), specifically the section about buying items and object. The firm has added in a stipulation saying ‘You may not use, transfer or assign any game assets for games of chance operated by third parties’.
In short, this means that players can use assets and currency from Eve Online to gamble.
As a part of this, CCP has taken action against two third-party gambling services. IWANTISK has been shut down, with money and assets being confiscated and brought forward as evidence of Real World Trading (gambling).
Meanwhile, Eve Casino has also been shut down, with money and assets also confiscated.
This is the latest instance of a company cracking down on gambling activity surround its game. Earlier this year, Valve sent cease and desist orders to Counter Strike: Global Offensive gambling sites.
CCP recently announced thatEve Online was going to become free-to-play. Meanwhile, the firm last month announced it was opening a new London office.
