CD Projekt reveals Cyberpunk 2077 ransom demand

Thieves have obtained files pertaining to the in-development Cyberpunk 2077, and are demanding a ransom from its developer for their return.

CD Projekt has confirmed that it will not abide by the demands, however, and has warned fans about possible leaks.

"An unidentified individual or individuals have just informed us they are in possession of a few internal files belonging to CD Projekt Red. Among them are documents connected to early designs for the upcoming game, Cyberpunk 2077,” the company admitted.

A demand for ransom has been made, saying that should we not comply, the files will be released to the general public. We will not be giving in to the demands of the individual or individuals that have contacted us, which might eventually lead to the files being published online. The appropriate legal authorities will be informed about the situation.

The documents are old and largely unrepresentative of the current vision for the game. Still, if you’re looking forward to playing Cyberpunk 2077, it would be best for you to avoid any information not coming directly from CD Projekt Red.”

The studio last year saidthat there are currently more game developers working on Cyberpunk 2077 than on The Witcher 3 in its most intensive month”.

Other details on the game remain scant, as they always have been. Indeed, the game’s social media channels have been quiet for a very long time.

The confirmation about the scope of development tallies withcomments made to MCVin 2015.

Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before,” visual effects artist Jose Teixeira said. Far, far bigger. We’re really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.”
