CEX rolls out Bitcoin payments to 32 new stores

Pre-owned specialist CEX is now accepting Bitcoin payments in 32 additional stores.

Earlier this year the retailer added Bitcoin payments to its website and begun trialling the currency at its Glasgow Sauchiehall Street store. That store, as well as Manchester Arndale, also now offer commission-free Bitcoin ATMs allowing customers to convert cash into the digital currency.

Customers will be able to make both Bitcoin purchases and receive Bitcoin payments.

If this latest expansion is successful it says Bitcoin could roll out to all CEX stores. The chain says it will be holding onto its Bitcoin reserves, too – a stark contrast to the practice followed by most businesses of cashing the currency in the moment it is received.

For us, Bitcoin is not a passing fad but the beginning of a fundamental shift in the way people think about digital money,” commercial director David Butler said told The Telegraph.

Our customers are always looking for new and engaging ideas and innovations and this attitude is not restricted to a new game or phone but also true of their approach to payment choices.”
