China’s Snail Games launching Obox console in the West

No, not the Xbox, the Obox.

Chinese games publisher Snail Games has taken to CES to announce a Western release for its Android console the Obox.

As far as Android consoles go, the specs are pretty beefy. The unit offers a Tegra K1 processor, 4GB of RAM and an optional 4TB of storage as well as three HDMI outs and both Wi-Fi and LAN internet connectivity. 3D and 4K graphics output is supported.

The box is designed in such a way so as to be upgradable, much like a traditional PC.

Snail is also launching its gaming-focused W3D smartphone which includes physical gaming controls on either side of the 5.5-inch screen as well as four shoulder buttons and an 8-core CPU.

Snail made its name publishing browser-based MMO titles but has since made a move into the hardware market and is currently China’s fifth biggest mobile phone provider, according to The Verge.

A US release for both units is scheduled for Q3 2015, with the Chinese arrival planned for Q2.
