Chinese dev XPEC building $3m art studio

China’s games industry continues to grow, and local developer XPEC Entertainment is capitalising on it with a new $3.44 million art production house.

The Greater Kaohsiung City Government signed a memorandum of understanding with the company, and expects the new 400 sqare metre facility to generate as many as 500 jobs over the next three years.

As foreign companies attempt to gain a foothold in one of the fastest growing markets for games in the world, Chinese firms are stepping up their own efforts to keep pace.

According to the Taipei Times, XPEC will also support 300 artists by funding 100 works within the city centre.

The facility will be located at the Pier 2 Arts Centre, which already hosts art production houses for Rhythm & Hues Studios, Sony Computer Entertainment Taiwan, White Rabbit Entertainment and Brogent Technologies.
