Clash Royale could be a billion dollar franchise for Supercell

Clash of Clans creator Supercell has another hit on its hands.

A Newzoo report that its latest release Clash Royale was the highest grossing smartphone game in the world in March, with revenues of $80m, putting the app on track to becoming a billion dollar franchise.

Note that the $80m figure does not include the 30 per cent cut claimed by Apple and Google for sales on iOS and Android.

Furthermore, the game’s success has had little impact on the existing Clash of Clans, revenues for which fell only very slightly in March. The game is also still awaiting its Chinese Android rollout.

Clash Royale currently tops the download charts in Europe and the US, and is second in China.

The game is also top of the grossing charts in many major markets and resides within the Top 10 in most others. More than half of its iOS revenue comes from the US and China, which between account for over half of all global iOS and Android revenue.
