Middlesbrough studio aims to release sandbox adventure on iOS and Android

Coatsink awarded £25k from games fund

A Middlesbrough-based studio has been awarded £25,000 worth of funding to develop a game.

Coatsink Software, based at DigitalCity’s flagship building Boho One, are to launch SuperGlad after gained the funding following a presentation to the University of Abertay Dundee’s Prototype Fund.

“Competition is always fierce for the Prototype Fund so we’re obviously very pleased to gain the funding to develop SuperGlad,” said Coatsink creative director Tom Beardsmore.

“It tells the story of a little girl and her bad-tempered bear who find themselves trapped in a dream world. As the game progresses they become more lucid and in control of their own destiny.

“It’s got the potential to be a real hit so we’re very pleased we can go ahead and develop it.”

SuperGlad has a mixture of ‘sandbox’ gameplay, where users can explore the dream world with creatures and objects to play with, and traditional gaming, where collectables can be won and high scores gained. The game features a girl, Ruby, and her bear, Lloyd, as they navigate an intricate dream world of their own creation.

Coatsink are aiming for a Christmas release for the game on iOS and Android devices.

Kirsty Gibson, project manager of the Abertay University Prototype Fund, added: “We were impressed with the concept and design for SuperGlad. We felt Coatsink have all of the necessary skills needed to make the game a success and we are pleased to support them in this process. Coatsink is exactly the kind of company the Prototype Fund was set up to support and we look forward to seeing the company, and SuperGlad, progress.”
