Codemasters has F1 licence for another year

Racing studio Codemasters has the rights to the F1 licence for just one more year.

That’s according to Videogamer, who reports that game designer Steven Embling said that the publisher only as the licence for another year. That means we will probably see an F1 2016 next year.

But the company has plans to renew its licensing agreement with the Formula One Group when it runs out.

"We have [the licence for] one more year, so we can release a title [after F1 2015] and then I believe the intention is to renew the contract after that," Embling told Videogamer.

Codemasters first published an official Formula One racing game in 2009, and has released an entry in this series every year since.

The company will be releasing F1 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on June 12th.

The firm also recently teased a new entry in its Dirt series earlier this year.
