Ubisoft is to scale-down its corporate operations in Brazil by the end of the year, following the failure of its local studios to meet initial performance expectations.
"Ubisoft confirms that development activities in its Brazilian studios will ramp down by the end of this year, as the current market conditions do not permit Ubisoft to achieve the goals initially set for the studios," a Ubisoft corporate representative told Gamasutra.
"Overall this year Ubisoft's global production headcount should remain stable. Ubisoft plans to continue its business presence in Brazil and is currently evaluating opportunities."
No mention was made of job losses or if the studios would eventually close down entirely.
An unnamed local developer informed Gamasutra that the closures had been anticipated, and that a local newspaper was attributing the closure to the recently shrinking causal Wii and DS software markets.
