Happy birthday to Creative Assembly, who today has hit the big three-zero. 30 years of development is to be celebrated by the studio by offering 30 free new regiments to Total War: Warhammer.
The developer, who is best known for the Total War franchise, started in 1987 porting Amiga titles to the DOS and over the course of the 1990s were developing sports games, including cricket, rugby and Aussie Rules football. The first TW title, Shogun: Total War, was released in 2000 and the studio hasn’t looked back.
Despite almost relocating to Singapore in its early days, the develop stayed UK based and is now one of the countries biggest game developers with over 500 people employed between the UK and the newly acquired CA Sofia studio.
“It’s fantastic to be celebrating 30 years of Creative Assembly," said studio director, Tim Heaton. "We are one of the oldest and now one of the largest UK studios, and an example of the UK’s worldwide creative impact.
“I am hugely thankful to the hard work and dedication of our talented teams. This year we have already seen unprecedented activity with the opening of Creative Assembly Sofia, a partnership with Wargaming, the release of Halo Wars 2 and continued content for Total War: Warhammer. Our fans will not be disappointed, with Total War: Warhammer and some very exciting unannounced projects on the horizon.”
The studio currently has eight major projects currently in development, four of which are presently unannounced. The studio is also continuing to give back to the development community with the start of its Creative Chronicles series, which looks at a specific area of game development and shares information, research and best practice from the studios three decades of experiences.
