Studio one of 13 small creative and digital businesses across England to receiving funding from Regional Growth Fund

Creative England invests in mobile dev Atomicom

Liverpool-based mobile game developer and publisher Atomicom has been awarded funding by national investment agency Creative England.

The investment into the studio is part of the £1m Regional Growth Fund, designed to help developers build up new cross-platform digital media content and services.

The studio is one of 13 small creative and digital businesses across England to receive the funding spread across all the firms.

Atomicom was launched in 2005 by a group of industry veterans initially focusing on console game development. The studio now however works solely on mobile titles for iOS and Android and has developed games such as Bang Bang Racing THD, Switch and Cats and Bombs.

The Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries Ed Vaizey visited the Liverpool studio today to congratulate the team on receiving the investment.

“The Creative industries make a massive contribution to the UK economy, to the tune of £36 billion each year,” said Vaizey.

“They are in an excellent position to help drive economic growth, so I’m delighted that the first round of funding from Creative England’s Regional Growth Fund is going to benefit 13 small creative and digital businesses across England, allowing them to bring new, innovative ideas to fruition and creating new jobs in the process.”

Atomicom MD Gary Nichols added: "We are very excited about the opportunity Creative England is offering us. For the past 12 months, we have been knocking on the doors of all the high street banks, to no avail. Despite the pressure from government the banks are still not lending to SMEs such as ourselves.

"To be able to get support from Government and from Creative England for our project is something we’re deeply grateful for. Without them it wouldn’t happen."
