It took almost a decade to develop and was only available for just a few days: fan project Pokémon Uranium is no longer available to download.
Interestingly, this is not the result of cease and desist from Nintendo, although the platform holder has had an impact. In a statement, the Uranium team said it has been “notified of multiple takedown notices from lawyers representing Nintendo of America” – even though it has not been contacted directly, Kotaku reports.
“It’s clear what their wishes are and we respect those deeply,” the team said. “Therefore, we will no longer provide official download links for the game through our website.”
The team stressed that is has “no connected to fans who reupload the game files to their own hosts” and warned potential players to be “extremely cautious” about downloading Pokémon Uranium from unofficial sources.
In the few days since it launched, Pokémon Uranium racked up more than 1.5m downloads.
