Piranha Games to take advantage of engine's physics based animations and destruction system

CryEngine to power ‘triple-A’ MechWarrior Online

CryEngine 3 will power upcoming free-to-play “triple-A” title MechWarrior Online, the engine’s developer Crytek has revealed.

“2012 will see a new segment in the games industry – as free-to-play games will step up to offer true triple-A quality to gamers,” said CryEngine director Carl Jones.

“Both Piranha and Crytek believe in the potential of this market and we look forward to helping them achieve their vision for an amazing game experience.”

The new online MechWarrior title, developed by Piranha Games, will pit players against each other in mech-to-mech combat across large battlefields as they vie for territorial control.

Piranha Games president Russ Bullock added: “It is definitely the best choice for us.

“Both the character animation pipeline with the procedurally and physics based animations and the destruction system fit our goals perfectly and allow us to develop a truly unique triple-A experience based on the award-winning BattleTech Universe."

The PC title is currently due for release in Summer 2012, with registration currently open for beta testing.
