Crysis 2 ‘crowned’ the most pirated game of 2011

The PC version of EA and Cryek’s Crysis 2 was the most pirated game of 2011, according to TorrentFreak.

Between its release in March 2011 and the end of the year, the shooter was downloaded approximately 3,920,000 times.

This ranked it ahead of other PC titles such as Modern Warfare 3 (3,650,000), Battlefield 3 (3,510,000), FIFA 12 (3,390,000) and Portal 2 (3,240,000).

On Xbox 360 Microsoft’s Gears of War 3 emerged as the most pirated game with 890,000 downloads. This was followed by Modern Warfare 3 (830,000), Battlefield 3 (760,000), Forza Motorsport 4 (720,000) and Kinect Sports: Season Two (690,000).

Surprisingly, Wii titles seemed to suffer more from illegal online piracy than Xbox 360.

The most pirated Wii title was Super Mario Galaxy 2, which suffered 1,280,000 downloads – almost 400k more than Gears of War 3.

The second most downloaded Wii title was Mario Sports Mix (1,090,000) followed by Xenoblade Chronicles (950,000)LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean (870,000) and FIFA 12 (860,000).
