Crytek teams up with Trion Worlds for Warface

Free-to-play shooter Warface will be co-published by developer Crytek and Trion Worlds.

The latter is best known for its popular MMORPG Rift, and is currently working on MMORTS End of Nations, which launches this September.

Crytek announced Warface back in 2010. The online shooter centres around both co-operative and competitive multiplayer, and uses the advanced CryEngine 3.

It will be made available in other territories via Crytek’s own social platform GFACE and will utilise Trion’s online publishing technology, codenamed Red Door.

"Trion is the company spearheading a revolution in gaming through delivering premium online games across big genres powered by a proven, cutting edge platform," said Crytek CEO and founder Cevat Yerli.

"The combination of this platform, GFACE and Warface shows Crytek’s commitment to finding innovative new ways to bring superior gaming experiences and triple-A titles to gamers."

Trion Worlds CEO and founder Lars Buttler added: "Crytek has repeatedly proven their foresight and they are doing that again by leading the shift towards delivering high-quality, free-to-play, online games.

"We very much feel that we are kindred companies and stand strong together."

Originally developed for the Korean and Asian markets, Warface is now being developed for North America, Europe, Turkey, Australia and New Zealand.

There is no word on a release date.
