Cyberpunk 2077 confirms release date and new character played by Keanu Reeves

Following a segment on the Microsoft stage for E3 2019, CD Projekt Red has revealed Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 16th, 2020. The news was revealed by the actor playing newly announced key character Johnny Silverhand, Keanu Reeves.

As well as giving his likeness and voice to the game, Reeves is also providing full-body motion capture for the “legendary rockerboy” character, too. The character is a fan-favourite, probably the best-known and liked from the original pen-and-paper RPG Cyberpunk 2020. His career may mean that Reeves’ character might play the guitar in the game, with CD Projekt Red having a history of building gameplay around public performances with one of the standout sets of missions in The Witcher 3, and Reeves experience at air guitar (as Ted “Theodore” Logan) should certainly aid the motion capture for that one.

Pre-orders for the eagerly anticipated game have gone live, including a newly announced Collector’s Edition. “Packed with a number of high-quality collectables”, the special edition includes a 25cm statue depicting game protagonist “V”, a steelbook case, a hardcover art book, and more. The contents come “in an impressive box made to look like one of the megabuildings towering over Night City”.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour, and body modification. You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality.

More Cyberpunk 2077 news is expected to be revealed during E3.

CD Projekt Red announced last year that it was partnering with Bandai Namco for the latter to distribute the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 across 24 European countries. The partnership sees business as usual between the two companies, with Bandai Namco also handling physical distribution duties for both the Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

With the deal, Bandai Namco will distribute physical copies of Cyberpunk 2077 in Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Malta, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
