Dare Blogs: Straight Ahead’s action game for mobile

What’s your game?
Straight Ahead is an action game for iPad and iPhone. You spin the engine of a vintage car with your finger, use the magnetic attributes, and protect it from the little monsters’ attacks – experience a colourful journey with the car’s owner, a lovely old gentleman.

What has the Dare experience been like?
Having the chance to take part in Dare is really fantastic and exciting. We cherish this opportunity to create a real game.

Working with students from all around the world gives us new ways of thinking. Besides, thanks to the mentors, who are always passionately giving us suggestions, we are promoting our game step by step to make it more attractive and interesting.

What have you learned from Dare?
First of all, we have learned how to make a productive schedule on designing a game and put it into practice efficiently, which we seldom experienced before in our two years’ university study.

Secondly, we are all expanding knowledge in our specific fields, such as how to insert animation into a game to polish it, how to search problems by using different software, etcetera. Besides, patience and perseverance are also being of great help.

Last but not least, we are improving our language skills, as well as cooking skills.

Are you looking forward to ProtoPlay?
That is for certain. We are looking forward to the final Dare ProtoPlay. Nothing is more exciting than bringing our own game to people, watching them experiencing it, having fun with it, and even being crazy about it!

What are your ambitions after Dare?
Dare taught us how to making an idea to a real game. We would like to refine our current game by adding more features, more ways of playing and so on. We are also accumulating our ideas, and looking for chances like Dare, where we can bring our thoughts to life.

Follow Straight Ahead on Twitter and Facebook to learn more about their game.

Dare ProtoPlay and Indie Fest is on 7th-10th August in Dundee’s Caird Hall and City Square, with all 15 Dare student games on show, as well as over 30 indie games.
