The Dare to be Digital 2014 team talks to Develop about working on their entry title World Eater

Dare Blogs: Taleforge Studios’ game of world destruction

What’s your game?
World Eater is a 3D destruction game for iOS devices where the user takes the role of a giant worm that swims around underground. Players leap from the earth destroying buildings and enemies in the form of tanks and helicopters that will fight back trying to protect the citizens.

What has the Dare experience been like?
The Dare experience has been amazing and has taught the entire team valuable lessons which we can take forward in our professional careers. It has supported us in becoming a strongly connected indie team, aiding us to create our first game by allowing us the time and resources to help us achieve completion.

Alongside this we’ve met some truly amazing people along the way, from socialising with other teams to meeting the various mentors who have visited during the developing weeks. We feel we’ve been given a fantastic insight into how the game industry works and what we can expect when we make the plunge into the professional development world.

What have you learned from Dare?
Dare has taught us how to create an idea that is both feasible but also can push ourselves to create something we feel is truly amazing. The game we are creating is something we all love and enjoy and the experience is something we will never forget. From this, the time management skills we have learnt and how to correctly prioritise workflow are essential skills we can take forward.

Are you looking forward to ProtoPlay?
ProtoPlay is just around the corner now and we cannot wait for the event to begin! World Eater is something we all truly love and is an idea we wanted to make for ourselves and others to enjoy. If people share even half the enthusiasm that we do we’ll be happy, and thanks to the previous focus testing we had with local school children we feel we may have achieved this.

What are your ambitions after Dare?
After Dare our main ambition is to finish the development of World Eater with a release on iOS platforms that people can enjoy. After that, we want to try and continue with Taleforge Studios and hopefully continuing to create games that people can enjoy and share experiences with us.

However, the dream itself is simply to enter the games industry and just do what it is we love.

Follow Taleforge on Twitter and Facebook to learn more about their game.

Dare ProtoPlay and Indie Fest is on 7th-10th August in Dundee’s Caird Hall and City Square, with all 15 Dare student games on show, as well as over 30 indie games. http://www.dareprotoplay.com/
