Develop Awards 2015: Partner Spotlight – Green Man Loaded

We round off this week’s Partner Spotlights with a look at retailer-turned-digital-publisher Green Man Loaded.

The firm’s Gary Rowe tells us why the firm’s origins of selling games rather than making them makes GML a fresh voice in the world of publishing.

Partner Spotlight: Green Man Loaded

For any readers who might not know you, tell us a little more about your company and its goal.
Green Man Loaded is a new breed of digital PC publisher. We’re grew out of Green Man Gaming and have carefully tailored our services to exactly match the latest market needs. We can help developers get their games funded, noticed, and sold world-wide.

What differentiates you from similar outfits? What’s unique about you?
Some publishers were developers first, others consultants, but we were originally retailers. We created a publishing outfit because we were already experts on how to market, price, and promote games on a global scale. We also already had in place the Green Man Gaming platform and its Playfire community to support our publishing activities, like offering Playfirst with Playfire BETA / early access opportunities. Adding to this capability, we’ve been signing up hundreds of streamers to our affiliate program who can help champion our titles. No other service can offer such a powerful launch to market

What excites and/or encourages you about the games industry and games development today?
The most exciting aspect is that the business models for game production are viable at much lower levels than they were five years ago. This is stimulating genuine innovation and the quality levels are astounding. I really do believe the power and cost effectiveness of Unity, Unreal, and Marmalade have created huge opportunities for developers to lower budgets whilst raising quality.

Regarding the Develop Awards finalists, what does it say to you about the industry and development today?
The industry is stronger than it has been since 2010, and it’s encouraging to see solid markets for small to medium budgets in VR, PC, and console digital. Triple A games are also going from strength to strength, but we need the whole ecosystem to be healthy which, if the Develop Awards are any indication of, it really is right now.

Do you have a message for the finalists?
Good luck and enjoy the evening!
