Edge now company's 'key brand for tools and services'

Adobe launches HTML5 toolset Edge

Adobe launched its new HTML5 tools & services platform Edge today at its Create the Web event in San Francisco.

The company is best known for Flash, which brings multimedia content to the web, but without iOS or Android support it seems the glory days are over for what was one of the most recogniseable brands in web development.

To keep up with the demand for multi-platform development, Edge provides solutions for the full range of the creative process.

Edge is now Adobe’s "key brand for tools and services that can create beautiful, mobile-ready content and apps with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for delivery to modern browsers and mobile devices,” the company told TechCrunch.

The suite includes previously launched tools like Edge Animate, as well as some new additions.

This includes Edge Code, formerly known as the open source code editor Brackets, which makes it possible to build code from the ground up, by suggestion, or with pre-designed snippets.

Hosted font service Typekit is also part of the suite, so designers will be able to chose from a wide array of fonts for their mobile app or web application.

Edge Animate is priced at $499 or as a standalone subscription of $14.99, but the entire suite is currently available to members of Adobe’s free Creative Cloud starter plan.
