AIAS names Mike Fischer new president

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), the outfit behind both the DICE summit and DICE awards, today announced it has a new president in Mike Fischer.

Fischer replaces the outgoing Martin Rae, who departed the organisation in October to join a VR livestreaming startup.

Whille Fischer will be overseeing the AIAS, he’s got a number of other commitments in the games industry, serving as a chairman for Chicago VR startup CloudGate Studio and a board member for San Diego’s Hero Machine Studios, both studios he founded this year. He’s also on the board for eSports streaming service Matcherino, and advises live music/virtual reality fusion TheWaveVR.

Fischer is embedded on the bleeding edge of the industry now, with all this livestreaming and VR experience, but he’s previously worked for many big-hitters in the games industry, Microsoft, Namco Bandai Games America, Sega of America, Epic Games and even a stint as the CEO and President of Square Enix.

"On behalf of the AIAS Board of Directors, I’m pleased to welcome Mike as the new Academy president," AIAS chairman Min Kim said in a statement. "After a careful selection process, the Board felt that Mike’s passion for the industry and his international experience will greatly benefit in helping grow our global reach and influence. We are fortunate to have an industry veteran like him lead the Academy."
