Harmonix has successfully achieved its crowdfunding goal for an HD remake of its cult rhythm action game, Amplitude, with just 21 hours left to go.
The Rock Band and Guitar Hero creator’s Kickstarter campaign surpassed its funding goal of $775,000 – reaching $810,526 at the time of writing with 10 hours left.
“You did it. We honestly can’t believe it – we get to make another Amplitude and play it with you guys. It’s incredible,” Harmonix’s John Drake wrote in an update.
“We’re reeling from the news and we’re incredibly humbled by the support from all of you.”
Harmonix intends to use the money to bring the Amplitude remake to PS4 and PS3, giving the game a visual update as well as providing a suitable challenge for fans of the PS2 original.
The campaign was backed by a number of developers who were keen to see the music game make return, among them Insomniac Games, who pledged $7,500, and Mojang’s Markus ‘Notch’ Persson.
Despite just slipping by its initial funding goal, Harmonix has already added a stretch goal for online synchronous head-to-head multiplayer, at the cost of $1,125,000.
“This feature has been at the top of our ‘dream features to add’ lists since the beginning,” Drake wrote.
“The amount that separates us from that goal is lofty – it may seem crazy optimistic to think that we could hit it. But it was just two days ago that folks were writing articles about how this Kickstarter had no chance of hitting our targets, and you guys proved them wrong.
“The money we’re asking for, as is the case for the entire Kickstarter, isn’t the total cost of the feature – we’re risking the remaining budget out of pocket because we want to see online multiplayer in the game as well.”
