Paul Crocker beats Zombies, Run! and Risen 2: Dark Waters writers to top prize

Arkham City scribe wins Writers’ Guild award

The lead narrative designer behind Batman: Arkham City has won the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain videogame writing award for 2012.

Paul Crocker has previously also written for the previous game in Rocksteady’s Batman series, Arkham Asylum.

Crocker beat the likes of Emma Beeby, who scribed Risen 2: Dark Waters, and Zombies, Run! writer Naomi Alderman to the award.

Previous winners of the videogame writers award include Overlord’s Rhianna Pratchett, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West writers Tameem Antoniades and Alex Garland and Red Dead Redemption scribes Dan and Mike House.

This year’s Writers’ Guild of Great Britain awards event was held at the Tabernacle in London. Awards were also handed out to writers from the TV industry, with Doctor Who and Sherlock’s Steven Moffat winning the special award for outstanding writing.

Batman: Arkham City was previously nominated for Use of Narrative at the Develop Awards this year alongside titles such as Driver: San Francisco, Zombies, Run! and Where is My Heart?.

Arkham City and Paul Crocker were beaten to the top prize however by Thechineseroom’s Dear Esther.
