ARM and a number of its partners are now testing out GameBench’s tools to see how they could help gauge mobile games’ performance and usability.
Bristol-based firm GameBench has developed a tool that measures the performance of devices running various apps and games. This data is then broken down into metrics such as frame rate, battery drain rate, network traffic and system resource usage.
The start-up has provided access to its tools to both ARM and some of the firm’s biggest partners in order to test their hardware and analyse how CPUs and GPUs handle mobile games.
"Our silicon partners want to understand how real-world workloads will run on mobile devices," said ARM’s director of mobile solutions James Bruce. "We are assessing the potential of using GameBench to help partners tune the efficiency and performance of our ARM Cortex CPUs and ARM Mali GPUs."
GameBench CEO Sri Iyer added: "We’re pleased that ARM sees the merit of what we’re trying to do. Our goal is to develop a reliable, objective framework by which app developers, hardware markers and end users can judge the performance of any app or device. ARM’s support is key to this mission."
