Japanese developer and publisher Bandai Namco is seeking new partnerships with local developers, even offering access to some of its most iconic IP.
The movie is part of a new “open project” that is due to begin in late April, according to an official document translated by Gematsu.
Creators will be able to use characters and copyrighted materials from 17 of the firm’s franchises. While devs will not have to be supervised, there will be a simple project review of how they’re using the characters.
The IP on offer includes Pac-Man, DigDug, Galaxian, Xevious, Mappy, Galaga, The Tower of Druaga, Battle City, Star Luster, Tower of Babel, Adventure of Valkyrie, Sky Kid, Dragon Buster, Shadow Land, Genpei Toma Den, Wonder Momo and Wagan Land.
The project allows developers to use these characters for a wide range of titles, from smartphone apps and browser games to more traditional titles.
Bandai Namco will announce details on which platforms and business models studios can use, plus how they can submit proposals, in the coming weeks.
