Will support the company as they seek to improve second life and launch VR social platform

Bing Gordon joins the Linden Labs board of directors

Linden Lab has today announced that Bing Gordon has joined its board of directors. Gordon will be advising the company on strategy, product and marketing issues as Linden Lab continue to work on Second Life and starts to run up to the launch of its social VR platform Sansar.

Gordon is the chief product officer for Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers but has experience before that with over 20 years experience in games at EA. Gordon also sat on the board

Sansar’s aim is to empower creators to share and monetise their own social VR experiences. This sounds similar to Second Life’s plan, where several people made a small living creating animations, furniture and clothing items for those in the game to buy with real money. Sansar is stated to start open beta at some stage during the first half of this year.

More than 10,000 creators have applied for early access at Sansar.com, and those invited have already published hundreds of unique social VR experiences with the platform.

“We’re honoured to have Bing join our board of directors and work with our team,” said Ebbe Altberg, Linden Lab’s CEO. “He’s helped to bring to life some of the most influential entertainment experiences in recent memory, and as we prepare to open Sansar for all creators, his insights, expertise, and counsel will prove invaluable.”

“Linden Lab has a wonderful legacy and future, based on its technical excellence and forward vision,” added Gordon

“Over the past 14 years, Second Life has proven the value of user-created virtual experiences, and enabling people to create their own social VR experiences is a massive opportunity for which no company is better positioned than Linden Lab is with Sansar. I’ve been spending a lot of time working with Ebbe and the team over the past six months, and it’s an exciting time to officially join Linden’s board.”
