Brenda and John Romero to be named Development Legends at Develop Awards 2017

John and Brenda Romero will receive this year’s Development Legend prizes at the Develop Industry Excellence Awards on Wednesday, 12th July.

The award recognises their decades of influence within the games industry and their work on groundbreaking franchises such as Doom, WolfensteinWizardry and Jagged Alliance

They join the list of elite developers who have been awarded this prestigious accolade over the years, with previous recipients including Hideo Kojima, Tim and Chris Stamper, Mark Cerny, Tim Sweeney, Mark Rein, David Perry, Peter Molyneux, David Braben, Charles Cecil, Phil Harrison and Ian Livingstone.

“Brenda and John Romero are the perfect choice for the Development Legend award and we’re very excited to accept them on stage to award it to them in person,” said Jem Alexander, editor of Develop Magazine.

“Their influence on the industry is truly legendary and their continued work and presence in games is a boon for all involved. So no pressure, guys! 

"This is the first Development Legend award handed out by the new Develop magazine team and we’ve made some changes to the structure of the awards to further highlight the best of the games industry from the past twelve months – to be revealed on the night.”

The Romeros will also keynote the Develop: Brighton conference, organised by Tandem Events, with two separate presentations about working in the games industry.
