Publisher confirms reorganisation due to console transition

Capcom VP departs amidst layoffs

Capcom has confirmed it is undergoing a major restructure in response to the console transition.

While Capcom’s revenue increased during the last quarter, profits decreased, which the company seems to have taken as proof a restructure is needed.

The restructure coincides with the departure of vice president Christian Svensson and includes an unspecified number of layoffs.

"Capcom today laid off several employees from the US office as part of an overall organizational restructure of the company,” a Capcom spokesperson told GamesIndustry International.

“The transition to the new generation of hardware and changing industry landscape have required us to adapt our business to best meet our new goals. We sincerely thank each individual for their contributions and wish them well. We are unable to provide information on numbers."

Svensson announced his departure and talked about the layoffs in a Facebook post thanking the company and its employees for his time there.

“While it comes as something of a relief, today is bittersweet,” he wrote.

“After nearly eight years, it is my final day at Capcom.”

Svensson named himself as one of those affected by the reorganization, and called on his industry colleagues to help find work for his former Capcom co-workers.

“Sadly, I’m not the only one affected by the reorganization today,” said the executive.

“Over the next few days, I’ll be gathering resumes from as many as I can and will be sending them out to my contacts around the industry to see if there’s a ‘love connection’ to be made.”

This might sound like Svensson – however ready he was to leave- was helped out the door, but he claims it was his idea.

“This departure is not a bad thing for me and it’s happening mostly because I’d suggested it during the early planning for today’s reorg,” Svensson admitted.

“While I wish the company the best of luck, Capcom is going in a different direction and the need for people at my level, relative to other areas, is lacking. Those who know me well, know that I’ve been ready to go for quite some time.”
