Salt Lake City branch will enable mixed reality firm to double development capabilities

CastAR hires former Disney Infinity devs for new studio

CastAR has opened a new studio and hired a number of ex-Avalanche Software employees to staff it.

The company, which specialises in mixed reality, has chosen Utah’s Salt Lake City as the location for its new office and appointed Steve Parkis to lead the studio, Pocket Gamer reports. Former Disney executive Parkis was recently hired as COO.

The addition of the ex-Avalanche team will enable CastAR to double its development abilities as it prepares to launch the first consumer version of its self-titled hardware next year.

These developers were laid off when the Disney Infinity studio was shut down and the franchise scrapped earlier this year. Disney has since continued retreating from the games market, with another 250 layoffs this week.

"Our new CastAR SLC team has creatively-inspired talent that has delivered at the highest levels of quality," said Parkis."We’re excited to have them join us in creating a new generation of gaming through mixed reality experiences.

"With their experience in bringing massive franchises to life through breakthrough interactive design, the addition of this team is our next bold step in launching a dynamic platform that will bring awe-inspiring mixed reality to households."
