Atari GO marks next phase for the recycled firm

Casual developers targeted by Atari

The next stage in Atari’s most recent reinvention has been revealed. It’s called Atari GO, and it’s designed to help increase the publisher’s footprint in the growing casual games space.

Atari Games Online will be headed up by the executive VP of online and mobile Thom Kozik (pictured), who is working to attract independent developers and content distribution partners to Atari’s new platform.

It’s being sold as a way for developers to “navigate the increasing complexities of publishing on multiple social networks, sites and portals by assisting with registration, inventory management, monetization tuning and advertising support”. Atari claims to have over a dozen such deals already in place.

The service hopes to offer both new brands and titles based on Atari’s stable of classic retro IP. The intention is also for Atari to embed its titles into other websites, sharing the revenue with the host.

“Thom brings a wealth of experience and insight to his role here at Atari as he joins our management team during this high growth period in online gaming,” CEO Jeff Lapin stated.

“We look forward to bringing modernised versions of our well-known games, such as Asteroids, and new original games to the global online marketplace.”

Kozik added: “The programs, tools and support structures behind Atari GO allows developers to focus on making great games that can then be delivered globally. Developers can already sign up for our programs and collaborate with us as we envision the future of cross-platform gaming.”
