Former Image Metrics director takes job at rival outfit

Cubic Motion hires ex-Image Metrics exec

Manchester-based facial animation group Cubic Motion has appointed industry veteran Eric Peterson as the firm’s consultant.

The move sees Peterson break away from market rival Image Metrics, in a move that deepens the links between the two competing companies.

Cubic Motion is the brainchild of founding trio Steven Dorning, Doug Tate and Mike Jones. Their previous employer is also Image Metrics.

The group’s CEO Gareth Edwards says working with Peterson presents “a rare and valuable” opportunity.

“We’re sure that he’ll be a passionate advocate of our broad-technology approach, using his expert knowledge of game development,” said.

Peterson himself explained why he moved from Image Metrics to Cubic Motion by laying praise on his new employer.

“Cubic’s strength comes from their Ph.D. team’s knowledge and ability to evaluate the best technical approach on a project-by- project basis,” he said.

"Cubic Motion is run by some of the leading experts in performance-driven animation, a field of significant importance to our industry.

“They build custom pipelines in just days, producing amazing results at a very economical price point, helping to transform the commercial outlook for developers considering top-quality facial animation in their games.”
