What’s your game?
Soul Seeker is an Android tablet game, in which players must eliminate villains by creating intricate freak accidents within the environment around them. The game concept was inspired by mixing games such as ‘Guess Who?’ and ‘Where’s Wally?’ with the movie ‘Final Destination’.
What has the Dare experience been like?
Being chosen to participate in Dare to be Digital is like being accepted to a crash course in industry-level games design. We have met a lot of individuals from various games company such as Ubisoft, Sega, Sony and other major games companies. We also met with some smaller indie companies such as Ninja Kiwi and Tag Games.
The mentors were more than willing to give us feedback on our game, though some of the suggestions would have over-scoped our game, we still tried to implement as much into the game as possible.
From the nerve-racking interview phase, to preparing for Protoplay, Dare to be Digital is just an overall amazing experience. It is without a doubt one of the best experience a young games designer could ever ask for.
What have you learned from Dare?
Dare to be Digital have given us a better insight to the workflow within the games industry. We had a hectic schedule and short deadlines. I like to believe that my team did a very good job at completing their tasks during the day to avoid having to stay late. Since we are all students of computer games design, we knew what to expect, with the exception of preparing for an event that will have over 13,000 attendees.
Are you looking forward to ProtoPlay?
Who wouldn’t be? It is the biggest indie game festival in the UK. We have all of our giveaways and posters done, so the only thing left to do is to prepare our stand and get people playing our game.
What are your ambitions after Dare?
If all goes well, the team and I have been discussing the possibility of creating our very own indie game company. Of course this would only be possible if we get some kind of funding, or if a bigger games company would be willing to take us on.
Dare ProtoPlay and Indie Fest is on 7th-10th August in Dundee’s Caird Hall and City Square, with all 15 Dare student games on show, as well as over 30 indie games. http://www.dareprotoplay.com/
