The Dare to be Digital 2014 team talks to Develop about working on their entry title Lapin: The legend of Shortpaw

Dare Blogs: Good Day Games’ endless runner

What’s your game?
Lapin is an endless runner game with arcade shooting elements. Using dual magical staves, you play as Shortpaw the Rabbit Mage blasting your way through waves of marauding enemies. Shoot them one staff at a time or combine them into an explosive magic beam that cuts down enemies in your path.

Lapin is being developed for iPad and iPhone and will hopefully be ported to other devices in the future.

What has the Dare experience been like?
The Dare experience has been great so far. The fact we have a place which has all the facilities we need to make our game idea a reality is invaluable to each of as people and as a team. Meeting other like-minded people from other teams is always a great way to learn from each other.

What have you learned from Dare?
We have learned a massive amount about how the team can come together and really push to meet targets. One example is when children came in for focus testing of the games and we really had to work hard to get the best playable build we could have at the time.

We worked long days but it was worth it as we got very positive feedback from the children, this also helped push the game forward in the right direction.

We have also learned that with the right equipment we are very capable of making professional work in very short times, which will help us in the competitive, fast-paced indie games market.

Are you looking forward to ProtoPlay?
Of course we are, at the end of the day it’s what we are all working towards and we can’t wait to see other people enjoying playing our game and hearing their thoughts. If the players enjoy it then we know it is a success and we have done our job.

What are your ambitions after Dare?
After Dare we plan to continue as a team and take Lapin forward and get it released. After that we hope to have a successful games development company starting from mobile games then moving towards triple-A type games.

Follow Good Day Games on Twitter and Facebook to learn more about their game.

Dare ProtoPlay and Indie Fest is on 7th-10th August in Dundee’s Caird Hall and City Square, with all 15 Dare student games on show, as well as over 30 indie games. http://www.dareprotoplay.com/
