Darrell Gallagher named head of studios in major Square Enix shake-up

Square Enix has enacted a major restructuring of its studio leadership teams in Europe and North America.

As part of a company-wide reshuffle, Darrell Gallagher has taken on the role of head of studios at the publisher.

Previously studio head at Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics, Gallagher will be now lead all studios in North America and Europe, working to develop the publisher’s portfolio strategy.

Gallagher will also retain his role at Crystal Dynamics for the immediate future.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution executive producer David Anfossi meanwhile will become studio head at Eidos Montreal.

He will be responsible for leading the studio as it finishes development of the upcoming Thief reboot, as well as overseeing two other unannounced projects at the studio.

A spokesperson for the company told Develop that former Eidos Montreal studio head Stephane D’Astous has now “taken on a new project in the company working directly with Darrell Gallagher across our studios focusing on cross studio operations".

Patrick Naud will now take on a central leadership role at Square Enix Montreal, which is to focus on development for mobile and tablets. The studio is currently working on a new titles based on the Hitman IP, although the publisher said it would eventually work on other titles.

Hannes Seifert has been named studio head full-time for IO Interactive, which recently suffered significant layoffs and project cancellations as it refocuses on the Hitman brand.

“Our focus remains firmly set on making great games and delivering unforgettable experiences,” said Square Enix America and Europe CEO Phil Rogers.

“Whilst our games will come in different shapes and sizes, we want to deliver them faster and better and we believe these changes will help our studios achieve just that.”
