Develop 100: Canada’s success uncovered

Last week revealed the astounding success of the top ten US studios which raised an impressive £327 million in UK retail revenue in 2011.

Over the coming weeks Develop will be publishing extracts and highlight data from the book, which uses GfK Chart-Track research on retail sales to formulate a ranking based on UK revenues.

The Develop 100 is an iPad-exclusive book, available for just £4.99 via the Develop iPad app. Click here to download it.

Today we look at the ten studios from tax-haven and games industry hub Canada featured in the Develop 100 list.

As we previously revealed, EA Canada blew away the competition, close to doubling 2nd place position Infinity Ward with £113.27m in UK retail revenue, thanks to the popular FIFA franchise.

Perhaps surprisingly though, unlike their US counterparts which took the Develop 100 by storm, Assassin’s Creed developer Ubisoft Montreal was the only other studio from the region to feature in the 20 at number six, garnering £49.63m in retail revenue.

Bioware just missed out on the top 20, followed sporadically by EA Black Box, Eidos Montreal, HB Studios, Relic, BigPark, Blue Castle Games and Behaviour Interactive.

In total, the Canada studios featured in the Develop 100 accumulated a very impressive £223.54m in UK retail revenue during 2011.
