Indie developer collects accolade for story behind puzzle platformer Thomas Was Alone

DEVELOP AWARDS: Mike Bithell receives Use of Narrative prize

Mike Bithell has won the award for Use of Narrative at the Develop Industry Excellence Awards 2013.

The indie developer took the prize for the story in hit puzzle platformer Thomas Was Alone, and beat finalists including The 39 Steps (The Story Mechanics), The Room (Fireproof Games), Dishonored (Arkane Studios), Crysis 3 (Crytek), Xi: Continuum (nDreams), ZombiU (Ubisoft Montpellier) and Wonderbook: Book of Spells (London Studio).

Mike Bithell has won much praise from the industry and players alike for Thomas Was Alone, which leads players through a tale about the first self-aware artificial intelligence in a computer mainframe, as represented by a number of polygon shapes.

The title features a narrator that explains the story as players progress through the game, voiced by Danny Wallace. The game’s music was composed by David Housden, who was also nominated for the Creative Contribution – Audio award.
