The most bankable game studios in the world today, measured by retail sales data

Below is Develop’s monthly breakdown of the world’s most successful games studios, measured by UK revenue at retail, with data provided by GfK Chart-Track.

The Develop Studios Sales Charts will be published on’s news pages at the end of each month.

Please note that digital sales are not included in the calculations, nor are retail transactions made outside the UK. The chart is intended to provide a snapshot of the most bankable studios in the world today.

Naughty Dog remains top dog from UK retail sales thanks to its hit title The Last of Us on PS3. Nintendo has also cemented its position in 2nd place as Animal Crossing: New Leaf continues to enjoy success, while Traveller’s Tales moves up one spot to third.

Two new entries into the top ten are Mario and Luigi: Dream Team Bros developer AlphaDream and Minecraft Xbox 360 edition outfit 4J Studio, taking up 7th and 8th spots.

In July, just five developers in the top 20 were independent, the rest were publisher-owned.

Studios from the USA represented almost half of the developers in the chart with nine entries. Canada had another three studios in the top 20, while four Japanese developers also made the list.

The UK again improved on its previous showing with four developers in the top 20, including Traveller’s Tales, 4J Studios, Rockstar North and Codemasters.
