An upcoming patch for Blizzard’s Diablo III will introduce microtransactions in some markets, but not in Europe or America.
Patch 2.2.0 will introduce a number of changes for players in Asia, the most notable of which is the addition of a new in-game currency called Platinum which will, among other things, allow players to buy timed experience boosts as well as cosmetic items such as wings, pets and character portraits.
Also mentioned are increases to stash space and character slot expansions.
“While the above features will not apply to this region, players will still benefit from some of the quality of life perks tied to these additions, such as a streamlined UI for selecting cosmetic benefits like pets and Collector’s Edition wings,” a Blizzard forum post explained.
“We recognize that many players have expressed an interest in microtransactions being added to Diablo III. While we may explore this model in some regions, we have no immediate plans to implement such purchases anytime soon for the European region.”
