Developer wants to work with players to help ensure a stable release

DICE mulls early access for future Battlefield games

EA DICE is considering an early access-style scheme for future Battlefield games.

Speaking to Game Informer, studio GM Karl Magnus Troedsson said although there was nothing yet to announce, the developer was keen to bring in the community to help ensure a stable release.

Last year the launch of Battlefield 4 was marred by a series of bugs that resulted in the studio spending the post-release period working on fixes instead of planned DLC.

“We have nothing to announce, but we are having discussions when it comes to [early access]," said Troedsson.

"It comes not from a business perspective, but more from a perspective of if it would help us have a stable launch of the game."

He added: “We probably wouldn’t open the floodgates for everyone, but we might do it for geographical territories or people who bought the last game.”

The comments came after a different kind of E3 press conference for EA, in which new CEO Andrew Wilson spoke of the publisher’s new approach to openness and provided early in-engine looks at titles such as Mass Effect, Star Wars Battlefront, Mirror’s Edge 2 and a new IP from UK studio Criterion.
