Today Develop has published online a special feature looking at how generative audio technology and techniques have progressed.
Written by sound library producer and FMOD studio expert user Stephan Schütze the piece argues that generative audio, which was a much talked about element of games development in the PlayStation 2 era, is as important today as it has ever been.
Part of Develop’s ongoing Audio Special, Schütze’s piece explores how developers today can reap unexpected rewards from adopting modern generative audio methodologies, which allow the audio team to use small ‘sound building blocks’ to create audio effects in real time.
"Generative audio is an element of game production that will become more and more the norm as we strive to create striking audio environments for our players," writes Schütze.
"The promise that new tools such as FMOD Studio are offering has me excited, as I honestly have no idea what I will be capable of creating in the next 12 months."
