Drifter Entertainment announces $2.25m in seed funding

Drifter Entertainment have today announced they’re raised $2.25m in seed funding for their work in virtual reality esports games.

We reported on Drifter’s formation back in October, and the company were notable then for the talent it brought to their Seattle headquarters. The trio of founders are Ray Davis, Kenneth Scott and Brian Murphy, between them bringing experience from id Software, Epic and Microsoft.

With this news that Drifter has found seed funding, it also brings confirmation that someone else aside from Drifter willing to take a gamble on virtual reality esports, two separate but high growth industries that haven’t quite matured yet, but have plenty of potential.

In this case, funding has been lead by venture capital outfit Signia Venture Partners, whose previous game investments include taken a game on Super Evil Mega Corp — the outfit behind Vainglory — and Phoenix Labs — currently working on their first title, Dauntless. A result of the funding round is that Sunny Dhillon has been put onto Drifter’s board by Signia.

"You rarely come across a founder like Ray with the technical and creative chops found in very few gaming company founders," Dhillon said. "We’re excited to build market defining virtual reality games with Team Drifter."
