Sony’s exclusive deal with Epic Games and Midway for their title Unreal Tournament 3 has meant that engine Unreal 3, which the game is built on, will be optimised for PlayStation 3.
SCEA boss Jack Tretton said the move would aid developers across the industry and also speed up game creation.
Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 continues to find favour at development studios across the globe – it’s most recent signings saw Kuju-owned Chemistry and US indie Chair announce they would be developing all their games on the middleware going forward.
At the same time, players will be able to create Unreal Tournament 3 mods on their PC and then play them in the PS3 game by uploading them to the PlayStation Network.
Unreal Tournament 3 is due later this year.
