Clamour for sequel crashes crowdfunding website

E3 2015: Shock as Shenmue III heads to Kickstarter

Shenmue 3 is in development and a crowdfunding campaign has begun to finish the game.

The shock move was announced during the Sony’s E3 press conference, with series creator Yu Suzuki revealed to be heading the game’s development. If successful, it will be the first title in the series since Shenmue 2 on the Dreamcast and Xbox in 2001.

Shenmue 3 is described as a full sequel to the previous two titles. Developer Ys Net is asking for $2m to fund the title. It has already raised over $75,000 in under 20 minutes. Strech goals have been provided up to $4m.

If successful, the game will be released on PS4 and PC. No mention is made of an Xbox One release.

At the time of writing, Kickstarter appears to be struggling with the number of people visiting the crowdfunding website.

You can visit the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter page right here.

Update: Within 40 minutes of being announced Shenmue 3 has raised more than $526,000 and looks well on track to hitting its funding goal. Kickstarter’s servers continue to struggle with the number of people on the site.
