Version control and asset management tool to help devs and artists collaborate more efficiently

Epic brings Perforce to Unreal Development Kit

Epic has added asset management system Perforce into the latest release of its free Unreal Development Kit.

The addition means that UDK developers can utilise control tools for up tp 20 users and 20 workstations, with no time limit or file quantity.

Perforce is a version control and asset management tool designed to help developers and artists collaborate more efficiently through managing data with change history tracking.

It manages digital files to ensure all assets are reproducible and traceable, whilst allowing teams to work simultaneously. It is also integrated with graphical tools such as Photoshop, Softimage, 3ds Max and Maya.

“Teaming up with the game industry’s cutting-edge and highly powerful Unreal Engine technology is a natural fit for Perforce,” said Perforce technical marketing manager Randy DeFauw.

“Epic understands the value of leveraging a rock solid version management system that appeals to developers of all disciplines. We’re pleased to share the benefits of Perforce with development teams worldwide through their latest release of the engine.”

Epic VP Jay Wilbur added: “Shipping a tighter Perforce integration with Unreal Engine 3 along with free access to Perforce via UDK demonstrates how Epic is always working to put more power into the hands of game developers everywhere.

“We are committed to providing the very best game engine technology at all times.”
